THE CARBON TAX - WHAT EVERY BUSINESS NEEDS TO KNOW As we are all aware the Carbon Tax will come into effect on the 1st July this year. There has been much debate on this topic but one thing is for sure this is going to cost your business money. The Australian Government has placed a fixed price on carbon for the next 3 years and is then proposing an emissions trading scheme moving forward. The 1st year price has been set at $23 per tonne. One thing they haven't been actively promoting is the carbon price you will pay will vary from state to state, with Victoria being the hardest hit with the Carbon Tax and Tasmania the least. This is due to how they calculate a tonne of carbon. Every state in Australia generates electricity from different sources (Wind, hydro, coal ETC.) which affects the calculation of carbon the generators produce. In a two speed economy and the manufacturing sector hurting already, this is certainly going to add extra pressure in an already challenging business environment. Below we have outlined the potential costs on a small user of electricity. We are able to provide you with our Energy Audit Report at no cost to your business. The report provides you with key information including current Electricity Prices, Carbon Tax Report and analysis of your Network Tariff.
